CLASSIC MINT JULEP

Nothing says spring like this classic Southern cocktail. We grow mint in the garden and it blooms super early and has so many uses. You can use it lemonades too! For this classic beverage, all you need is mint, ice, sugar and bourbon. So easy a child could do it, although that might be illegal. Here is an amazing recipe courtesy of Bartender Barry! Enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces of bourbon
  • 1-2 sugar cubes
  • 3-5 fresh mint leaves, leaves torn
  • Shaved ice (I used cocktail ice in this picture)
  • Muddler (or the back of a wooden spoon)

Instructions:

  1. Put the sugar cubes in the bottom of the glass.
  2. Add mint and use your muddler to crush the sugar cubes with the mint. Mix for 30 seconds. ( in a pinch, you can use simple syrup).
  3. Add the bourbon.
  4. Add half the ice and stir again to dissolve the sugar and infuse the bourbon.
  5. Add the remaining ice.
  6. Garnish with mint.
  7. Optional: you can dust the top with powdered sugar. We find it a bit too sweet.
