Sweet Tea is the house wine of the South but Summer seems to beg for a little fun. Here is a simple recipe with 6 whole food ingredients. This recipe utilizes honey instead of sugar for a delightful flavor
INGREDIENTS:
The peel of 2 oranges
The peel of 1 lemon
1 small finger of fresh ginger, sliced
3 family sized Luzianne (Lipton) tea bags
1/2 cup of honey
6-8 cups of water
DIRECTIONS:
Add the peels and ginger to 2 cups of water in a sauce pan over medium heat and bring to a boil.
Stir in the honey until dissolved. Reduce heat to low and allow the fruit and honey to simmer for 20 minutes. The longer it simmers, the stronger the flavors.
Turn off the heat and add tea bags. Steep 10 minutes.
Strain steeped tea into a pitcher and fill with ice and water.
Garnish with citrus wedges or mint to serve.
Tip: save peels in a baggie in your refrigerator until you are ready to make tea!
